Development

I chose the brief, “A Great British Summer”. I had to design a picnic pack for two that holds savoury and sweet snacks and drinks. I decided to develop the idea of wrapping a picnic up in a checkered blanket after doing a mind map of everything associated with summer.

As it had to be primarily made from carton board, I found it a bit difficult to create a blanket shape.

After a tutorial, it seemed a good opportunity to incorporate a theme – pantomime – as the checkered blanket was similar to Dick Whittington’s spotted handkerchief.

I also liked the idea of creating a stage so the pack could be re-used (which was another plus from the brief).

Here are my final development boards for the competition, which includes the journey from idea to end product.
